Which country r u in? In USA they teachparts of Chinese history in the world history course.
I live in Norway, and we are teached nextto nothing about China.
+Cerii interesting, do you guys teach worldhistory then？
Are you in college or hs?
@TheSunshineRequiem Yes, we are teachedabout world history, but not so much about China. More European history.
+Cerii after all it's a foreign history toyou guys, but at least it should at least mention the invention of paper, compass, gunpowder and printing. Maybe the Silk Road connects Asia to Europetoo.
Do Chinese learn about European history?
LiquidfirePUA of course, i learn hre androman empire , and spain ,british ,dutch rise ,and russian , france evolutionwhen i was in middleschool.btw , i am a chinese
Cerii every country want the citizen to beproud as their own culture. when they learn chinese history , i guess they wontproud that much on their own hisotry cultrue.this is a reason. their governmentdont want their citizento know in ancient time there was a country which is muchbigger ,stronger , and more civilizied than them. this aganist theirown-nation- advanture theory. i am not nature english speaker, sorry maybewrong gramar, but i try my best
@Kl yb That is fine, i found youexplenation quit helpful :)
Awesome, I'm self-educating on Chinesehistory now! I have sent a letter to my mnister of education asking for more onAsian / Euasian history.
We do get some history, but it's quitebland/basic, compared to European/American history.
You guys made some greatprojects(eventhough some of it was build by slaves just like we did in the west).
I.e combining the rivers, Great Wall etc.
Count Janus Hassildor
Cerii western culture and education is veryeurocentric, so it's possible that they just don't find you learning about Asiaas important and possible want you to be only proud of your European ancestry, the truth is that there is a whole world out there of fascinating cultures andsocieties, the Mayans of central America and mexico, The empires of Africa, themiddle eastern civilizations, the Asian cultures and empires, etc. There ismuch more than western history.
True we learn nothing about Chinese orAsian history in general at school here in the West. History classes as far asI remember started with a 'Prehistory intro' then the Egyptians, the Greeks,Romans, ... eventually you've also probably seen that the Chinese built a wallin geography classes but that's about it.
Commenting from Belgium, I bet theAmericans are even more ignorant :D IF you want to know more, there's thelibrary or the internet.
Of course as kids we would never complainabout not having to learn something.
Western and European countries learned manything from China, but they dont want to accept it, they think, they are moredeveloped countries than Asians
西方和欧洲国家从中国学到了良多工具, 但他们不想接管, 他们觉得, 他们比亚洲人更发家
I'm Chinese and I think we don't have enoughlearning about other countries either.
Our history textbook was divided into twoparts: the history of China, and the history of the world. The Chinese partstarts with Huang Di (or Yellow Emperor), Yao, Shun, Yu, then Sia Dynasty. Theworld history part starts with the name of Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and then straightly jump to Ancient Greece and Roman Empire. To me, all thoseancient civilizations existed in middle-east, north Africa, and south-east partof Europe is like a jam.
They always report bad news about Chinabecause contemporary China is a communist country, the West is averse tocommunism, and thus dislikes contemporary China. And even ancient China wasdisgusted together.
@LiquidfirePUA The Chinese have learnedEuropean history in great detail. English is a compulsory course for Chinesestudents. The Chinese know the West very well. The Chinese even know thehistory of Europe than the Americans. I heard that many people in the UnitedStates cannot find Europe's position on the map and even find the UnitedStates.
Cerii , for the same reasons that Africanor Latin American or Native American history is ignored or minimized. The Eurocentric view of history has beeninstitutionalized to maintain and defend colonialism and its lasting effects. This is why all native writings weresystematically destroyed in the americas by the Spanish and British and why theBritish, French and Arabs purposely defaced the monuments in ancient Egypt thatindicated African features . History isrewritten by the “ winners “.
Rolling Cloud , i was a world historyteacher in America and can attest that Chinese and other world civilizations get short shrift compared toEuropean, particularly English, history. Even AP courses offer little content in Asian and Indian civilizationsmuch less African history outside of ancient Egypt and little mention of nativemesoamerican and Caribbean cultures other than to note their so calledbarbarism and to use that asjustification for their collapse and defeat by the Europeans.
I doubt that more than 1/4 of American highschool graduates can name more than 10 cities in any continent other thanEurope or North America or accurately state the number of countries in Africamuch less the names or the number of Chinese or Indian provinces or even listNative American ethnic groups, who solely in conjunction with their Africancounterparts are incorrectly identified as tribes.
Why aren’t the normans or aryans or anglesor saxons or Huns or Visigoths or Vikings or any European ethnic or languagegroups ever referred to as such? Eventhe top tier American public or private schools rarely or ever offer coursesthat provide in depth study in or require demonstration of any but superficialknowledge of non western culture, even on standardized tests.
